There are tradeoffs with any change in public policy and even small policy changes impact state budgets and taxpayers’ pocketbooks.
To help citizens and policymakers understand the impact of policy decisions on businesses, families, jobs, the economy, and state revenues, the Buckeye Institute’s Economic Research Center (ERC) offers reliable research and personalized dynamic economic modeling on:
Impact of ERC work
- Using a custom dynamic scoring model developed in-house by ERC economists, Buckeye experts are able to demonstrate the true costs of policy changes.
- Economists and analysts at the ERC conduct research on various issues including tax reform, tax policy, energy policy and health care policy.
- ERC’s Buckeye experts craft tax plans tailored to specific state needs and meet with policymakers to clearly explain how those plans benefit taxpayers and stimulate economic growth.
- Since 2016, the work of the ERC has saved taxpayers in 10 states more than $3.1 billion. We can also help your condition.

Bethany Marcum, Managing Director, Alaska Policy Forum
“When our state was undertaking very difficult discussions and decisions regarding new taxes, the APF chose the Center for Economic Research at the Buckeye Institute to study the data. It was important to us that a thorough and methodical analysis be conducted on potential tax proposals circulating. We cannot expect policy makers to make the right choices without having a full picture of the impacts. The resulting product was a remarkable study, Unsustainable Spending: Alaska State Budget and Economy. The valuable information contained in this report has been used by decision-makers in the executive and legislative branches as they grapple with these issues. Good policy depends on solid data, such as that provided by the Center for Economic Research.
John Hendrickson, Policy Director, Tax Education Foundation of Iowa
“The Buckeye Institute’s Center for Economic Research has produced A Better Way Forward for Iowa Tax Reform, which modeled four tax reform scenarios. This study helped advance the tax reform agenda in Iowa. During the 2020 legislative session, Governor Kim Reynolds made tax reform a priority. The scenarios in A better way forward looked like the Governor’s proposal. In fact, the study was read by the governor’s tax adviser and shared with many lawmakers. The report also allowed us to contribute to the tax reform debate through a series of opinion pieces and media appearances across Iowa. We could not have done this without the expertise of the Buckeye Center for Economic Research.
